Over-population: The Mother of Many
Problems
Over-population
in our country has become the cause of many problems. After crossing the stunning
figure of 10 million a few years ago, it is still increasing at an alarming
speed. Its ill-effects are visible everywhere. The most glaring ill-effect is
unemployment, which further has given rise to crime and corruption. Unemployed
youth do not hesitate to resort to commit crime and joining anti-social
elements. They also adopt corrupt means to amass money. Over-population has also
indirectly damaged human relationships. There is always a clash of interests in
the families where there are siblings more than two. Unemployment due to
over-population creates grudge in people’s hearts and this also spoils human
relationships.
The impact
of over-population can be seen in long queues at the booking windows at railways
stations and bus stands, crowds inside railway compartments, buses, trams,
three-wheelers, hospitals and where not? It has also disturbed the demand and
supply of the essential commodities, giving rises to the prices. The roads are
crowded, leading to frequent jams in metro cities. The pressure on the natural
resources is increasing at an alarming speed. The causes of over-population are
many. But the most effective tool that can prevent the speed of the increase in
population is the spread of education. Its speed must be curtailed; otherwise
the engine of our country’s economic progress will be derailed.
